Large Breed Rescue
Dedicated to saving the lives of
Mastiffs, Great Danes and Saint Bernards
We ARE a 501C3 Charitable Organization
West Coast Mastiff & Large Breed Rescue (WCMLBR)
was formed to help reduce the number of large breed dogs in the California Shelter system. Our breeds include Mastiffs, Great Danes and St. Bernards.
WCM
is a non-profit organization that relies on its volunteers for the welfare and placement of dogs in it's care.
WCM
in a statewide rescue that takes in gentle giants and places them in a foster home for evaluation and veterinary care. Each dog is carefully evaluated and matched to a family to live out its life. Please consider adoption, it saves lives.
We place dogs all over CA, OR, WA, NV and AZ. We now have volunteers all over the west coast.
Unfortunately,
the dog placement business is picking up as people face financial hardships and foreclosures. If you are one of these people, please reconsider giving up your family member but if it is the only option, we will try to help you
We need funds to help care for these animals. We are asking for your help and donations

Please help this poor boy

Hello All
Meet Bear a 3 year old Enlgish Mastiff. We pulled him from a shelter on the day he was going to be put to death. He is an XXXL boy with a couple curable medical needs. He needs surgery on his eyelids and treatment for his nose and feet. His surgeries and treatments are going to run over $2,000. If you would like to help us save this boy, please make a donation, anything will help. We are really struggling with all the surgeries we have had to have done to save these giants. Or if you are interested in adopting Bear, please complete an adoption application on this website and mention his name. Bear is in Southern CA.

Hi my name is Bear and I'm a real big guy without a family.
When my family got me as a puppy I thought everything was wonderful until I wasn't allowed in the house with them. I became very sad. after a couple years, I started to not be able to see. My eyelashes were scratching my eyes and I always kept them closed. It really hurts. My new foster mom says I need surgery on both eyelids, but then I will be able to keep my eyes open again and enjoy the world. It really hurts so I can't wait.
Since I was stuck outside all the time, flies have bitten my nose so much that it is bloody and I don't like it. My fostermom is fixing that too. Funny what a little ointment will do. I wonder why my old family didn't do this for me it only takes a minute and feels so good.

Oh yeah, and there's my feet. The flys have done so much damage to my toes that they are swollen and bloody. They look terrible and really hurt me. My new mom says she is taking me to the doctor to get that fixed too.
After I am all fixed up I will be a wonderful boy for a family. I am XXXL at 177 pounds and mom says I could use another 10 pounds. I love kids and people and if you need a great boy for your family, my name is Bear. Please mention me.

One family's testimonial

After careful consideration, my family decided it was time for us to get a new dog. We knew we wanted to adopt a Mastiff so we searched on line for different large breed adoption agencies. We applied to a few of them and right away, we were most impressed with West Coast Mastiff Rescue. WCM immediately responded to our application and were happy to answer any and all questions we had about the adoption process. They acted professionally from the start. Even though WCM had several dogs that were adoptable, we weren't sure any of them were the right fit for our family. We knew that our new dog would become a member of our family and be a part of our lives for several years. It was very important to us that we didn't just get any dog; we wanted the right dog. WCM was never concerned that we were being too "picky" about our dog. They absolutely wanted the same thing, not only for us, but for their dogs as well. As new dogs meeting our criteria became available, WCM contacted us. They worked with us until we found the perfect dog for our family. After only a couple of weeks, we met a beautiful English Mastiff named "Thor". We arranged to meet Thor and decided to foster him for a week to make sure he was a good fit for us. During that week, we were able to see our veterinarian to discuss any concerns we had. WCM disclosed all of Thor's medical history and background to us. We very quickly fell in love with Thor and made his adoption official. We are thrilled that we decided to use WCM's services to get our new dog. The entire process was easy, professional and organized. WCM has been absolutely wonderful to work with. It is quite obvious that they really do want what is best not only for the dogs but for your family as well. If you are considering adopting a large breed dog, we urge you to use West Coast Mastiff Rescue. If given the chance, they will find the perfect dog for you!

West Coast Mastiff has been very busy this past year and still continue to be; We have rescued and rehomed over 130 giant in 2009 and 2010 has not slowed down with more continuing to come in(remembering we are not a facility but have individual foster homes). With the surrendering of many, many dogs to rescue, due to the financial struggles of people effected by the economy, we are struggling too. The problem is so severe that we have had to turn dogs away or leave dogs in situations that are less than perfect. This is killing those of us that love the giant breeds. We need your help. The majority of dogs coming into rescue are not neutered or current on their shots. Vet costs are our major expense. We not only want to insure that the dogs have a new life but that their quality of life is there too. If you have it in your heart and are able to do so, we are a non-profit and any donation made will go directly to the dogs. It is also tax deductible.

Remember Eddie, AKATrooper? He had cancer and his adoptive family paid thousands of dollars to get the radiation therapy that he needed. Some of you even sent contributions for Troopers care and they were much appreciated I might add. Look at Trooper now. A big healthy Great Dane that just graduated #1 in his class. Way to go Trooper, your mom and I knew you were a special boy! Love ya Elaine
