West Coast Mastiff
&
 Large Breed Rescue

Dedicated to saving the lives of
Mastiffs, Great Danes and Saint Bernards

West Coast Mastiff & Large Breed Rescue (WCMLBR) was formed to help reduce the number of large breed dogs in the California Shelter system. Our breeds include Mastiffs, Great Danes and St. Bernards. WCM is a non-profit organization that relies on its volunteers for the welfare and placement of dogs in it's care. WCM in a statewide rescue that takes in gentle giants and places them in a foster home for evaluation and veterinary care. Each dog is carefully evaluated and matched to a family to live out its life. Please consider adoption, it saves lives.

We place   dogs all over CA, OR, WA, NV and AZ.  We now have volunteers all over the west coast.

Unfortunalty the dog placement business is picking up as people face financial hardships and foreclosures.  If you are one of these people,  please reconsider giving up your family member but if it is the only option, we will try to help you

Updates to Come On Joel's Surgery, Very Soon!!!!

PLEASE HELP JOEL

Today we rescued an unbelievable soul from the shelter.  His name is Joel and he is a 2 year old

Neopolitan Mastiff.  During his 2 short years of life  Joel has suffered malnutrition and lived with

 two severe cherry eyes.  He is unable to see out of one eye and the other is 75% blocked.  With

surgery, Joel will be able to see again and can try to learn to be a puppy since he never had the

cancer.     Please consider helping us with Joels medical bills.  His surgery will cost over $3,000 and as

a non-profit this is an expense that will set us back.  Your donation is tax deductible and you will help

save a terrific dog.   If you are inerested in adopting Joel, please complete an on-line application and

mention his name.  Thanks for having a big heart.  WCM

Joel enjoying the good life in his foster home

05.23.09

One of our very special volunteers has written this poem about Joel, now affectionatly

called Jo B.  Please enjoy and feel the love that our volunteers give these wonderful

gentle giants.

My Gift is my heart

Its May22 and the beginning of spring ;

The 3rd day I have Jo boy and it’s been enlightening

As I was driving home with Joe B, to bring him to his special home;

I vowed to him and to myself that he would not die alone

He could barely see, but he knew I was standing there;

He knew in his heart I was the answer to his prayers

He knew I was his angel sent from God above;

To help him, guide him and give him all the love

When his life was in trouble and he was looking for me;

He knew there would be someone to rescue his needs

A sweet word from some stranger that came along;

That took his giant paw and said it won’t be long

But still I am with you, you sweet little boy;

The few days you’ve been around, you have given me much joy

In the dark, you will see light, in the light you will have hope;

That you will not be alone to deal with and cope

You have such a gentle soul and such a huge heart;

But unfortunately you were not given a very good start

As you lay in the sun and have “Baby” by your side;

I still have hope and I continue to cry

But I know the end is almost near;

The pain and the sadness is almost too much to bear

My sweet little Jo;

You little innocent boy

No more pain no more sorrow no more neglect, no more tomorrow

I will see you in heaven when I give up my wings but I have to continue to rescue other things

Thank you for giving me a place in your heart;

We will always be together even when we part

I will love you till then and make you feel safe

I will trust you, because you can trust me

I will not neglect you, because you don’t neglect me

I will love you, because you love me

And even though I’m human, it’s unconditionally

It was at the hands of a human that made you have the short life that you do

And I will be forever angry and forever sad that they did this to you.

But I love you as I wipe your eyes

I love you as I sit by your side

I love you as I watch the beat of your heart

So wishing, I could give you a new start

I love you as you are, not what you could have been

I love you Joe B. Elaine loves you, Dennis loves you, Wendy loves you,  UNTIL THEN!!!!!

Joel and Jen

UPDATE 04.28.09

Joel is without a doubt the most wonderful boy.  He loves people, walks great

 on a leash and is completely housebroken.  His only problem now is that he is unable to have his

surgeries at this time due to his emaciated condition.  He has suffered such extreme malnutrition that his

stomach is distended and full of fluid.  This problem is due to a lack of any protein in his diet .  His doctor

hopes that with a proper diet, his stomach distention will correct itself and he will be able to gain some

weight and have his surgery.

It is obvious to his foster mom and dad that he is improving already because he is starting to play

and LOVES to be with his family, especially his dad.  Joel's medical expenses are going to be very hefty

and any donation to assist in his care will  be greatly appreciated.  Thanks  WCM

  UPDATE 05.08.09

We received some bad news about Joel.  He has an enlarged heart and it is a terminal condition.  The

vet has given him 3 months to enjoy all the things he has missed out on during his 2 short years of

life. So he is going to live with the two people who love him most, his foster mom and dad, who will

make sure he feels the sand of the beach on his paws  and gets to breathe the fresh air of the

mountains.

Poor Joel is too thin and his heart is in such bad shape that he can not have the eye

surgery he so badly needs.  He would not survive. He is a wonderful boy and we will continue to keep

him on his many  daily medications to prolong his life until he can't go on any longer.  Please check in

on Joel from time to time, we're working on his personal video so everyone can see what a special boy

he is.  Thanks  WCM

PLEASE ENJOY A FEW PICTURES FROM OUR ADOPTERS

Remember Eddie, AKATrooper?  He had cancer and his adoptive family paid thousands of dollars to get the radiation therapy that he needed.  Some of you even sent contributions for Troopers care and they were much appreciated I might add.  Look at Trooper now.  A big healthy Great Dane that just graduated #1 in his class.  Way to go Trooper, your mom and I knew you were a special boy!  Love ya  Elaine
