West Coast Mastiff & Large Breed Rescue (WCMLBR) was formed to help reduce the number of large breed dogs in the California Shelter system. Our breeds include Mastiffs, Great Danes and St. Bernards. WCM is a non-profit organization that relies on its volunteers for the welfare and placement of dogs in it's care. WCM in a statewide rescue that takes in gentle giants and places them in a foster home for evaluation and veterinary care. Each dog is carefully evaluated and matched to a family to live out its life. Please consider adoption, it saves lives.
We place dogs all over CA, OR, WA, NV and AZ. We now have volunteers all over the west coast.
Unfortunately,the dog placement business is picking up as people face financial hardships and foreclosures. If you are one of these people, please reconsider giving up your family member but if it is the only option, we will try to help you

This is Tyreese and Rosie, both are Mastiff's in their own rights; Tyreese is a Bull Mastiff, Rosie is a Dogue de Bordeaux. They both will be very nice size dogs when full grown.
Tyreese and Rosie have a lot in common, both come from back yard breeders. Both the "breeders" of Tyreese and Rosie knew these two wonderful creatures would not be something they would make any money on. They knew in fact that both these dogs had problems from birth and would potentially cost way more than they would ever get for selling them on the open market.
Tyreese and Rosie were literally saved from a fate worse than death as they will be fine if you have a big enough heart to look past their deformities after we take care of their needs. Tyreese as you can "see," so to speak, is blind in one eye and needs help with the other. Rosie has one front leg that needs to be amputated because its so deformed she can't use it. These kids were saved from people who considered themselves to be reputable. The puppies were surrendered, to us, instead of be putting down so we could do the right thing by both of them. We also do this on behalf all of those backyard giants with deformities that we never know about.
Please know that with proper health testing and standards in the breeding community this could have been prevented. Both these puppies could have been just like the other puppies in other litters but they aren't because there are no rules for breeding. In the meantime, we will always stand up for the puppies we are aware of. WCM Rescue is now in considerate charge of the care of these little two amazing animals who never once asked for the problems they now face and will forever have as adult dogs.
We ask you to be aware of where you get your animals from. Please don't support this kind of back yard breeding. For this is what happens and worse. Some breeders weed out the heard and kill the ones not worthy of sale in a not so worthy way.
We also ask you, yes we ask you, to give if you can, to help us take care of these two precious puppies, as they will need very special medical care throughout their lives to keep them going and living the best lives they can live! We all here are volunteers and we all give so much of our time, our energy and every last cent we have to help these in our care. Won't you help us care for them as well? West Coast Mastiff has been very busy this year. We have rescued and rehomed over 130 dogs since January. With the surrendering of many, many dogs to rescue, due to the financial struggles of people effected by the economy, we are struggling too. The problem is so severe that we have had to turn dogs away or leave dogs in situations that are less than perfect. This is killing those of us that love the giant breeds. We need your help. The majority of dogs coming into rescue are not neutered or current on their shots. Vet costs are our major expense. We not only want to insure that the dogs have a new life but that their quality of life is there too. If you have it in your heart and are able to do so, we are a non-profit and any donation made will go directly to the dogs. It is also tax deductible.

Remember Eddie, AKATrooper? He had cancer and his adoptive family paid thousands of dollars to get the radiation therapy that he needed. Some of you even sent contributions for Troopers care and they were much appreciated I might add. Look at Trooper now. A big healthy Great Dane that just graduated #1 in his class. Way to go Trooper, your mom and I knew you were a special boy! Love ya Elaine
